Teeth Whitening

Are you unhappy with the color of your teeth? Perhaps you have tried over-the-counter tooth whiteners and toothpastes, only to be disappointed with the overall results.

Professional tooth whitening is a noninvasive cosmetic dental treatment that has gained in popularity in recent years. Affordable and safe, it can make your teeth whiter and brighter after just about an hour in the dentist's chair.

If you wish your teeth were whiter, they can be! Call Dr. Kyle Nishimura of Orange Grove Family Dentistry to find out how quick and easy professional tooth whitening can be.

The Teeth Whitening Procedure

Professional tooth whitening is a multi-step procedure that takes only about one hour. You will walk out of the dentist’s office with teeth that are many shades whiter than when you walked in.

First, Dr. Nishimura will determine whether or not you are a good candidate for teeth whitening by conducting a thorough examination and cleaning. Most patients whose teeth and gums are healthy will find they can expect good results from the treatment.

Using the professional tooth whitening system, a member of our team will prepare you for the procedure by covering your lips and gums. These protective measures will keep the bleaching agent off these areas.

Then it is time to apply the bleaching agent to the teeth. The use of an ultraviolet lamp will help with the whitening process. The bleaching agent stays on the teeth for 15 minutes, and then it is removed and reapplied two more times for a total of 45 minutes of bleaching time.

After 45 minutes, the activation process is complete. A paste that will help reduce sensitivity will then be applied to your teeth to provide further protection in the unlikely event that you would have any sensitivity after the process is complete.

Results after the Teeth Whitening Procedure

Most of our patients notice results immediately after the treatment. When compared with over-the-counter whitening strips or whitening toothpastes, professional teeth whitening has better results.

You can extend the results of your treatment by following up with a home-care teeth whitening system that includes custom-fitted whitening trays. It is also advisable to avoid stain-inducing foods and beverages after you undergo the whitening treatment. Tobacco products are also not advised.

The Safety of the Teeth Whitening Procedure

Patients who have concerns about the safety of the professional whitening system need not be concerned. The best way to whiten your teeth is under the care of your dentist.

Patients usually report minimal discomfort during and after the treatment. People who have an extra-sensitive gag reflex might feel some discomfort, however, and if that is a concern, it’s best to bring it up with Dr. Nishimura ahead of time. He can go over the specifics of the procedure.

Whitening for Life

We all want a healthy, white, and bright smile. And we want all of our patients to have a smile they love to show the world. To that end, we are pleased to participate in the Whitening for Life Program.

This program is available for both new and existing patients to enjoy teeth whitening—for life!

If you are a new patient, we would like to see your for an initial examination and cleaning; we will also take a set of x-rays at your first appointment. Once we know your teeth are clean and healthy, we will offer you an initial teeth whitening procedure—at a discounted rate. With that, you’ll receive custom whitening trays along with three whitening syringes.

Every time you come in for a regularly scheduled appointment for examinations and cleanings—at least two or three times per year—we will give you a fresh whitening syringe for free.

If you are an existing patient who has already had teeth whitened in our office and who has received the custom trays, you are automatically enrolled in the program. If you haven’t had your teeth whitened with us, let us know you would like to do so. We will provide you with a discounted teeth whitening procedure; then we’ll enroll you in the Whitening for Life program. When your custom whitening trays are ready, you will receive three whitening syringes to get you started.

As long as you keep your regularly scheduled appointments, you’ll receive a new whitening syringe each time absolutely free.
