Professional Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening services involve using strong bleaching agents and specialized equipment. Yellowed teeth can dull your smile and take away from your confidence. There are a number of different factors that can cause discolored teeth, such as poor hygiene, old age, and frailty of teeth that can be caused by a few different things. Dr. Nishimura will first evaluate your oral health and determine if you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. If so, he will apply a bleaching gel to your teeth and use a special light or laser to activate the gel and accelerate the whitening process. The hydrogen peroxide gel then activates the gel, releasing oxygen ions. The oxygen ions flood your teeth and break down interior and exterior staining. In as little as one treatment, professional teeth whitening can brighten your smile.  This process is safe and effective, with most patients experiencing little to no discomfort.

  • What are the benefits of teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening brightens your smile which can raise confidence, help you appear healthier and happier and younger—even more energetic. This can go a long way in improving your overall appearance and can sometimes be achieved in just one treatment.

There are various options to help whiten your teeth—see which option is best.

  • Is teeth whitening safe?

In general teeth whitening is considered to be safe. Professional teeth whitening treatments are the safest option for your teeth. If you are using at-home teeth whitening solutions, it’s important to be careful not to overdo it. For abrasive whiteners, it’s important to not use them too often or too aggressively as this can damage your enamel. If using chemical whiteners, use strips that have a lower concentration of the chemical, and don’t leave them on for too long. This can cause tooth sensitivity and discomfort of the gums.

  • How is professional teeth whitening performed?

Our office currently offers two different types of professional whitening services: in-office and custom-made trays.

    • In-office. These procedures start by covering up vulnerable areas inside the mouth, including the lips and gums, to prevent exposure from the peroxide. Then, we apply a high-concentrate hydrogen peroxide gel directly to the teeth and activate it. You will rest comfortably for a short time until the gel does its work. Then we remove the coverings and rinse the gel away.
    • Custom-made trays. We will take a custom mold of your teeth to make clear trays that you take home, along with a whitening gel. These trays will help minimize the risk of whitening gel affecting your gums or mouth and you can whiten your teeth from the comfort of your home. All you have to do is place the whitening gel inside the trays and place the trays in your mouth.
